How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in applying to a graduate degree in the School of Sustainability.

Students must meet ASU’s Graduate College Requirements.
Then, apply directly to the ASU Graduate Application .

Additionally, depending on your degree program of choice, the School of Sustainability requires additional application materials. Additional application materials are outlined below depending on which degree you are applying for admission.

It is recommended that applicants view faculty bios and if possible, consult faculty in the School of Sustainability before they apply to make sure their areas of interest are supported in the program. Applicants are also encouraged to read about current sustainability research projects to understand more about the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability and possible research opportunities.


MA, MS and PhD in Sustainability

The following information pertains to the PhD, MA, and MS in Sustainability.

  • Applications for these programs are accepted for fall admission only
  • Applications must be received by December 15th of the preceding year
  • Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances
  • Complete applications include GRE scores and recommendations

Master of Sustainability Solutions (MSUS)

The following information pertains to the Master of Sustainability Solutions (MSUS)

  • Applications for these programs are accepted for fall admission only.
  • We recommend applicants submit the application no later than November 15th.
  • Applications must be received by December 15th of the preceding year.
  • References cannot submit letters until the application is submitted.
  • Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.
  • Complete applications include GRE scores and recommendations.

Master of Sustainability Leadership (MSL)

The following information pertains to the Master of Sustainability Leadership (MSL)

  • For admission consideration for Fall, complete applications must be received by August 1st.
  • For admission consideration for Spring, complete applications must be received by December 15th.
  • Seats in the program are limited and are expected to fill quickly.
  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so applicants are encouraged to apply early.

Executive Master of Sustainability Leadership (EMSL)

The following information pertains to the Executive Master of Sustainability Leadership (EMSL)

  • For admission consideration for Spring, complete applications must be received by November 30th.
  • Applications submitted after November 30, 2017 will be considered, but will incur an additional $50 late application fee.

ASU Graduate College Requirements

Graduate College Requirements

All applicants must meet the basic requirements of Graduate College .

  1. Application. ASU uses a generic application for all graduate admissions .

  2. $70 application fee for domestic applicants and $90 application fee for international applicants. Applications submitted without the fee will not be processed or reviewed. In addition to the normal application fee, a $50 non-refundable late processing fee will be charged for all applications submitted on or after the dates posted for session C on the Graduate College website .

  3. Official copy of transcripts. Unofficial copies will not be accepted. Students should send transcripts from each university or college they have attended (ASU transcripts do not need to be sent). Official transcripts are normally sent from the issuing institutions in sealed envelopes, stamped and verified by the issuing institutions.

  4. U.S. bachelor’s degree. Or the equivalent from a regionally accredited institution, or the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree from an international institution officially recognized by the country in which the institution is located. If the student is completing a bachelor’s degree, a transcript will need to be sent both at the time of application and upon completion of the degree.

  5. Equivalent to a B average. (Applies to the last 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of undergraduate coursework.) Students not meeting the minimum GPA requirement may still be considered, although the School may require additional documents that support the case for admission. (See program specific GPA requirements.)

  6. Proof of measles immunization. Documentation must be submitted to Student Health; see Immunization Verification at http://students.asu.edu/forms/measles-immunization-form . This is not absolutely necessary for applying to the program, but must be on file before enrolling in courses.

All application materials submitted to Graduate College will be forwarded to the School of Sustainability.
