Biography

Dr. Pasqualetti is Professor of Geography in the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning at ASU. Additional affiliations include: Senior Sustainability Scientist in the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability, and Co-Director of the Energy Policy Information Council (EPIC). His research concentrations include (a) energy as a social issue, (b) the creation and reuse of energy landscapes, and (c) public acceptance of renewable energy technology. He is the ASU liaison to the Coalition for Action within the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He has advised several agencies and NGOs, including the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the National Academy of Sciences, the Arizona Office of Energy Policy, the Union of Concerned Scientists, and Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). At ASU, Dr. Pasqualetti offers several energy classes, including The Thread of Energy, Energy in the Global Arena, Energy and Environment, and Solar Energy Policy. He was appointed by two Arizona governors to chair the Arizona Solar Energy Advisory Council, and is a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Arizona Solar Center. He serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals, including Energy Research & Social Science. Dr. Pasqualetti’s work has taken him to several countries, including: UK, UAE, Oman, Guyana, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Singapore, China, Kosovo, Israel, Turkey, and the Palestinian Territories. His latest book (with others) is The Renewable Energy Landscape: Preserving Scenic Values in our Sustainable Future (Routledge). In 2015, he received the Alexander and Ilse Melamid Gold Medal from the American Geographical Society for his international contributions to the study of energy.
