Colin Tetreault is an accomplished sustainability business, policy, and senior scholar practitioner. He drives revenue and sparks innovation, mitigates and manages risk, and advances brands and causes.
Colin serves as Principal for S2 Consulting, LLC, an innovation-driven sustainability and management consulting firm. Colin is charged with enabling organizational structure, culture, and operations to be more profitable and sustainability minded through business acumen and scientific rigor. Select clients include PetSmart, Intel, Starbucks, Competitor Group, various cities and SME private businesses. His efforts impact all levels of systems from employees and managers to suppliers and customers.
Colin has served as the Senior Policy Advisor of Sustainability to Mayor Stanton of Phoenix, Arizona; the highest appointed sustainability position in the state of Arizona. Colin oversaw the development and recommendation of business solutions and policy germane to sustainability over the 520 mile2, 1.5 million person population of the City of Phoenix. Acting with a city and regional emphasis, Colin advanced Phoenix’s future by: creating robust and resilient economic opportunity for all; protecting and expanding environmental and natural systems while looking to them for use-inspired solutions; fostering and growing a beautiful, vibrant, pluralistic and socially just culture.
Colin holds a Master of Arts from Arizona State University’s School of Sustainability, the first program of its kind in the United States. Colin holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He has studied international business and development at the Baltic Business School while living and consulting for international companies, in Sweden.
Colin actively leads international and domestic civic organizations focused on advancing sustainability issues. As a Founding Director for Carbon Roots International, Colin acts as an advocate for economic development and environmental protection in Haiti; he and the organization (recognized by USAID and the Swedish Development Organization) are advancing the lives of hundreds of Haitians, daily. As Treasurer for the Phoenix Parks Foundation, Colin ensures that open space continues to provide environmental, social, and economic returns. Colin serves as a non-partisan Director of the Planned Parenthood of Arizona Advocates Board to promote and advance health options to all persons in all circumstances. Working to advance a globally connected, smart and sustainable world, Colin serves as an Advisor to the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers and the Arizona Institute for Digital Progress.
Colin actively advances sustainability via guest writing for numerous publications. He is a featured dynamic speaker at numerous business conventions, board meetings, professional conferences, academic forums, and community engagement meetings. Notably, Colin has presented or participated at: The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of New Champions, Green Biz’s Annual Meeting, VergeCon, and VerdeExchange.
As a proponent of education at all levels, Colin leverages his background, work ethic, and personal experiences to advance the education of future “change agents.” Colin currently serves as Senior Sustainability Scholar and Faculty Associate and Manager – focusing on: business & sustainability strategy; national energy & environmental policy; entrepreneurship & smart cities; “resource” & circular economies – at ASU’s School of Sustainability.
Colin includes his position as a competitive age-group triathlete a point of pride. He has been honored to complete three Ironman Triathlons, both domestically and abroad. Colin is an avid hiker and outdoor enthusiast. Colin is based in Phoenix, Arizona where he is the significant beneficiary of his wife’s poor taste in men, enjoys the well-crafted Scottish-style ale, and has found his true calling in life…being a father to his young son, Connor Tennyson and his young daughter Madeline Millay. Colin is recognized as a “40 under 40” by the Phoenix Business Journal, an Earth Day Awardee by Keep Phoenix Beautiful, TED Speaker, and recently served as the Chairman of the Final Four 2017 Sustainability Committee.
