Biography

Deirdre Pfeiffer researches the effect of housing planning and policymaking on the socioeconomic mobility of diverse racial groups. Her dissertation addressed the experiences of African Americans who moved from inner city to exurban Los Angeles, with a particular interest in how the move affected their housing, employment, educational opportunity, and safety. She is in the process of expanding the research by examining the effects of exurban growth on racial inequality in neighborhood conditions nationwide. Dr. Pfeiffer also has a strong interest in the neighborhood outcomes of the recent foreclosure crisis. She is currently studying the factors affecting how long foreclosures remain vacant and to whom they are eventually sold in majority Latino Southern California communities
