Jay M. Stein previously served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affiars at SUNY Plattsbrgh. At the University of Florida he served as Professor of Urban and Regional Planning, founding director of the Center for Health and the Built Environment, Dean of the College of Design, Construction and Planning, and Chair of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. He is a member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Certified Planners. Among his awards and honors, Dr. Stein was named by students the Outstanding Teacher of the Year in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, 2008.
He has served on four editorial boards and is the author of numerous books and articles, including Classic Readings in Urban Planning (American Planning Asociation Press) and Classic Readings in Real Estate and Development (the Urban Land Institute).
Dr. Stein has also engaged in many service activities, including as a member of the National Task Force, College for Every Student, an organization dedicated to helping "at-risk" students gain admission to college. He currently serves as an elected representative on the Executive Committee, Arizona Chapter of the American Planning Association; and as a member of the Heatlth Communities Steering Committee, APA.
Established in 2007, the School of Sustainability brings together multiple disciplines and leaders to create and share knowledge, train a new generation of scholars and practitioners, and develop practical solutions to the most pressing environmental, economic, and social challenges of sustainability - especially as they relate to urban areas.
