Student Clubs and Organizations with a Focus on Sustainability

Campus Student Sustainability Initiatives (CSSI) »

CSSI is a student-led body that coordinates and leads sustainability initiatives on campus in collaboration with students, administration, and the community. It is the evolution of the Undergraduate Student Government’s Campus Environment Department merged with the Sustainability Initiatives Group.

Green Team »

A large volunteer force managed by the USG Campus Environment Department, the Green Team’s goals include educating, motivating, and organizing students to create a more sustainable campus encompassing recycling, transportation, food, housing, and goods and services. Email greenteam@asu.edu.

Community Sustainability Initiatives – Polytechnic »

CSI Polytechnic is an ASU organization focused on achieving meaningful sustainability initiatives. The organization aims to create an effective network, as well as collaborate with other organizations.

Students Act Now for Sustainability (SANS) – Polytechnic »

SANS Poly is the primary student club organizing sustainability efforts on the ASU Polytechnic Campus.

Undergraduate Student Government (USG) »

USG is the students’ voice to university administration, the Arizona Board of Regents, and local and state government. USG advocates for student-friendly policies at both the campus and university levels and also provides club funding for organizations across campus.

School of Sustainability College Council »

The SOS College Council is a peer-elected group of SOS students focused on uniting fellow students to promote the social, academic, cultural, and professional interests of the sustainability community.

Sustainability House at Barrett (SHAB) »

SHAB is a community of friends who live in a sustainably built, LEED Silver-certified building on ASU’s honors college campus. SHAB values sustainable living practices and promotes an environmentally and socially responsible lifestyle.

Arizona State Cycling Community »

ASCC consolidates and makes available resources and services for cyclists and lobbies the university and local governments for the interests of ASU cyclists. The group organizes exciting bicycle social events, and reaches out to the greater cycling community.

Arizona Student Environmental Coalition »

A political action organization that believes Arizona must transition from a fossil fuel economy to a clean energy economy, with a prompt phase-out of coal fired electricity and the creation of a vibrant new solar industry. The group strives to safeguard the local and global environment.

ASU Grow »

ASU Grow is group of sustainable desert gardeners who learn to garden organically by doing. In exchange for garden space, water, seeds, and access to garden tools, members volunteer for the Arboretum at ASU.

Eco-Aid on Campus – Tempe »

Electric Vehicle Club »

EVC is dedicated to giving students experience with emerging plug-in hybrid electric vehicle and electric vehicle technologies. The primary goal of the club is to build a formula hybrid race car for competition in the annual SAE- and IEEE-sanctioned Formula Hybrid Competition in Loudon, NH.

Emerging Green Builders (EGB) »

EGB integrates students into the green building movement. The group’s mission is to create a network of emerging green building leaders with a multidisciplined approach. EGB develops opportunities for involvement through the USGBC and other sustainable organizations to further generate momentum for the green building industry.

Engineers Without Borders »

Engineers Without Borders partners with disadvantaged communities to improve quality of life through environmentally and economically sustainable engineering projects, while developing internationally responsible engineering students.

Local to Global Justice »

L2GJ believes it is vital to connect local diversity, sustainability, and social justice issues to larger global struggles. The group educates ASU students and the greater community about issues of local and global justice, while promoting diversity, freedom of speech, and academic freedom of discussion.

Net Impact »

The mission of Net Impact and the ASU Student Chapter is to improve the world by growing and strengthening a network of leaders who use the power of business to make a positive net social, environmental, and economic impact.

Real Food Challenge »

Real Food Challenge is a nationwide non-profit grassroots leadership project. Real Food’s goal is to address topics within food systems especially local, humane, fair, and ecologically sound food.

Sustainability Jedi »

SJedi is an ASU student organization designed to enhance the educational experience of its members by involving them in real-world sustainable development projects that are based on directly improving the lives of rural and underprivileged communities around the world.

Sun Devil Green »

SDG raises awareness of sustainability and puts on programs around campus to implement sustainability initiatives. Focusing on residence halls, the group provides outreach, sustainable tips, and activities, and engages students in sustainable activities.

Sun Devils for Wildlife Conservation »

This group spreads awareness of the importance of wildlife conservation through active participation in legislation and it assists local conservation groups through fundraising and volunteer efforts. The group also works with several animal rights organizations to improve the treatment of animals in Arizona.

U.S. Green Building Council Arizona State University Chapter »

USGBC’s goal is to help students at ASU gain the knowledge needed to become LEED Accredited through study sessions, educational workshops, and practice tests.

United Students for Fair Trade »

USFT advocates for fair trade products, policies, and principles. The group’s core objective is to raise the awareness of the need for fair trade.

VegAware »

VegAware spreads awareness and understanding of the issues surrounding a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle and creates a community for students who live a veg lifestyle. Membership is open to all.

The School encourages its students to get involved on campus and in the community by joining one (or more) of the 500+ clubs and student organizations at ASU. Participating in a club at ASU offers students the opportunity to meet new people, gain leadership experience, participate in community service, and enhance their overall experience at ASU.

ASU Dining Services – Meal plans, dining options on campus, and catering for events.

ASU Libraries – Library services for all ASU libraries. Access online research databases, browse special collections, access course reserve materials, request books from other campuses, reserve a group study room, or find that hard-to-find book through the Interlibrary Loan service.

ASU Memorial Union – The campus community center for students, faculty, and staff, and guests.

ASU News – ASU’s news and information center.

Campus Health Service/Student Health - Receive medical care on campus. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are also accepted.

Campus Recreation – Student Recreation Center (SRC) membership in the gym is included in your registration fees. Also available at the SRC are aquatics, personal training, intramurals, open/outdoor recreation, sports clubs, etc.

Computing Sites – Get locations, schedules, and info on available software/hardware.
