Advising

Dear Prospective School of Sustainability Undergraduate Students:

Thank you for your interest in the School of Sustainability’s undergraduate programs. We look forward to welcoming our first class of undergraduate students in Fall 2008.

Since our undergraduate curriculum is still in development, we are not able to advise students at this time, but we understand that you may have questions about the developing programs, so we would be happy to meet with you. To schedule an appointment, please call Roxanne Treece at (480) 727-6963 or email schoolofsustainability@asu.edu.

If you would like to apply to ASU, please visit the Undergraduate Admissions website.

If you are currently a student and considering switching majors to Sustainability, we encourage you to meet with your major academic advisor to determine if switching to a new major would be appropriate for you at this point in your academic career.

If you would like to be added to our mailing list for when we have more information available on the undergraduate programs, please email your name, preferred email address, phone number, and mailing address to: schoolofsustainability@asu.edu

Undergraduate Advising Philosophy

Our goal is to assist students in achieving their personal, educational, cultural, and career goals while becoming self directed, life-long learners. As your academic advisors, we are here to:

  • Help you and navigate through your undergraduate education at ASU.
  • Assist you in setting achievable academic and career goals.
  • Facilitate your understanding of university and School of Sustainability academic requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Teach you how to find available resources both inside and outside of ASU that will enhance your education.
  • Assist you in identifying other experiences that will enhance your life, educational, and cultural goals.
  • Evaluate your progress toward degree completion.

We encourage continuing students to meet with us at least once each semester. New students will be required to meet with an advisor before being cleared to register for classes.

Responsibilities of the Advisee

Students also have responsibilities when it comes to the advising they receive as undergraduates in our programs. Below are your responsibilities as an advisee:

  • Obtain and utilize the appropriate information needed to assume final responsibility for your own course scheduling, program planning, and successful completion of degree program requirements.
  • Learn the university and school policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Learn and understand the requirements for your degree and major.
  • Be prepared when meeting or contacting an advisor. For example, make a list of questions, review your unofficial transcript and/or your Degree Audit report (DARS) through ASU Interactive. Know why you want to meet with an advisor and prepare any necessary materials for the meeting. It is recommended that you also bring pencil/pen and paper to make notes.
  • Seek assistance and resources for all aspects of your undergraduate experience, not just when you encounter a problem.
  • If you are receiving financial aid, be aware that it is often dependent on your academic progress.
  • Consult with your academic advisor regularly, or at least once each semester.
