Types of Financial Aid

There are four main types of financial aid for undergraduate students at ASU:

• Grants – gift assistance that does not need to be repaid. Awarding of grants is primarily based on financial need.
• Loans – provided to the student or the student’s parents for educational expenses. Loans must be repaid.
• Scholarships – gift assistance that is awarded based on merit and/or financial need. Scholarships do not need to be repaid as long as all requirements are met.
• Student Employment – working while attending school in order to meet students’ personal and/or educational expenses.

To be eligible for most of these types of financial aid, students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as the FAFSA. The FAFSA can be completed online at: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

ASU has three Student Employment programs, including the ASU Hourly Employment Program, the Federal Work-Study Program, and the Off-Campus Hourly Program. For more information on student employment at ASU or to search for jobs, please visit the Student Employment website.

Scholarships

To apply for scholarships at ASU, you will need to complete the General Scholarship Application. This application is used to identify qualified students for various scholarships at ASU and from private donors.
