Graduate Student Application Process
Thank you for your interest in our Sustainability programs. The information below will guide you through the application process.
Application Deadlines
For Spring 2008, the priority deadline for applications is September 15, 2007. Spring 2008 will be the last time students are admitted in the Spring. For Fall 2008 the priority deadline for applications is January 15, 2008. Applicants will be accepted on a space-available basis. Applications received thereafter will be evaluated on a rolling basis.

Application Process
Applicants will need to file all application materials with the Graduate College (detailed steps follow).
STEP 1: Graduate College Requirements
Requirements for Graduate Admissions can be found at:

For your application to be considered complete, you will need to submit the following to the Graduate College Admissions office:
- Application. ASU supports a “generic” application that is used for all graduate admissions regardless of discipline. For an online application and instructions go to: https://sec.was.asu.edu/dgsadmissions/Index.jsp.
- Application Fee. $65 for domestic applicants and $80 for international applicants. Applications submitted without the fee will not be reviewed.
- Official Copy of Transcripts (unofficial copies will not be accepted) from every university or college you have attended. Transcripts in sealed envelopes, stamped and verified by the issuing institutions are preferred.

- Official Test Scores. Take any tests required by the program you are applying to (GRE scores in your case) and have the official scores sent directly to Graduate Admissions. Test scores must be received directly from the agency administering the test. Photocopies are not acceptable.
- US Bachelor’s Degree or the Equivalent from a regionally accredited institution or the equivalent of a US bachelor's degree from an international institution officially recognized by that country.
- Equivalent to a “B” Average (in the last 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of undergraduate coursework). Students not meeting the minimum GPA requirements may still be considered, although the School may require additional supporting documents.
- Proof of Measles Immunization on file with Student Health (see Immunization Verification at http://www.asu.edu/health/measles.html).
All application materials submitted to the Graduate College will be forwarded to the School of Sustainability.
STEP 2: School of Sustainability Requirements
In addition to the Graduate College Requirements, the School requires the following:
- Official Copy of Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores should be sent to the Graduate College per instructions above. For more information on the GREs: (http://www.gre.org, or if you live near ASU, http://www.asu.edu/uts). ASU's program code is 4007.
- Letters of Recommendation. Three (3) letters are required and must be mailed directly to the Graduate College. Please ask the recommenders to send an additional copy of their recommendation directly to the School of Sustainability via e-mail. References should be from professionals or educators familiar with the student’s experience and capability for graduate work. There is a Recommendation Form (Word or pdf) that must be submitted along with the letter. The prospective student should complete their section on the form and then give it to the recommender to complete. The form can be filled in and saved electronically. (Please note if you only have Acrobat Reader you can only fill in and print; you cannot save.)

- Statement of Intent. When completing your application online you will be asked to upload and attach a statement of intent. In no more than 600 words, explain why you are applying to the School of Sustainability, outline your background information, describe your expected outcomes from the program, identify potential faculty advisors and areas of research/study, and elaborate on how the degree will support your aspirations and goals.
STEP 3: Review Process
We will review your file once the School of Sustainability receives all materials from the Graduate College.
